Prayer service will be celebrated to commemorate nine deaf pupils who died in 1919 following the outbreak of Spanish Influenza.<\/p>\n

The event is weather permitting otherwise mass will be celebrated in the Deaf Heritage Centre (DHC) hall (Old Chapel) at Thomas Mahon Building.<\/p>\n

Guided tour of the Deaf Museum in the Heritage Centre by a former pupil of St. Joseph’s School for Deaf Boys, Cabra, Liam Breen.<\/p>\n

Liam Breen is involved in recording and preserving various collections about the history of Deaf Schools and the Deaf Clubs in Ireland as well as setting up the museum in the Thomas Mahon Building.<\/p>\n

The Centre for Deaf Studies in Trinity Collage will present a topic on heritage links between Universities in Ireland and the Irish deaf community.<\/p>\n

While it is widely known that the deaf community is currently and severely under-represented in the higher education, there are a number of universities playing a little-known, yet significant role in shaping the deaf communities for the past century. Dr. John Bosco Conama will make a number of references to the linkages between the universities and the deaf community in Ireland.<\/p>\n

Photographic Exhibibition on Claremont in the DHC. Several hundred deaf children received board, educational and vocational training in Claremont Institute until 1943.
\nIn Glasnevin Village is St.Mobhi’s Church where several deaf children including Claremont’s first pupil Thomas Collins, who wrote a letter to King George IV, lie buried in unmarked graves. Tours of St Mobhi’s Church and Claremont Institution (now St Clare’s Home, Griffith Avenue) can be arranged by contacting Rachel Pollard.<\/p>\n

A guided tour conducted by Dominic McGreal which tells the rich history of the former St.Josephs School, the famous main gate, old graveyard, old swimmingpool and much more…<\/p>\n

The tour will continue on the Thomas Mahon Building, the old yard and the new grounds of Deaf Village Ireland which received an award by the Association of Landscape Contractors of Ireland in 2013. This wouldn’t have been achieved only for the great work of the community employee staff.<\/p>\n

Joey Watson of Deaf Sports Ireland will present about the Irish Deaf Sports Association, which was founded in 1968. There will be an exhibition of all medals won by Irish Deaf in Deaf Sports Ireland.
\nDeaf Sports Ireland will be organising a big event next year for there 50th Anniversary to celebrate forty-nine years of dedicated work and competitions such as Deaflympics. The World and European Championships. DSI also provide popular national Easter sports held in different parts of Ireland every year.<\/p>\n
